Taylor Bowls Super Challenge

semi final

Tranmere Bowling Club again entered three teams into the Taylor Bowls Super Challenge Series for the 2017-18 season; Silver North, Bronze North and Bronze Central.

At the end of the home and away season, the Silver North side squeezed into the top four on shot difference, thus qualifying for the finals. In the first final, it played and beat Marion, the top side from the Silver South division, to progress to the semi-final. In what can only be described as atrocious weather conditions for lawn bowls (but, it’s the same for both sides) Tranmere was beaten by Morphett Vale in a closely fought match. Although the side missed out in playing in the grand final, it can take some solace in the knowledge that Morphett Vale went on to ultimately win the grand final.

The Bronze North side, which had won three of the past four Bronze division championships, had another stellar home and away season, winning every match to finish top of table. Unfortunately, the side found one better on the day in the elimination final, going down to Henley 3 rinks to 1.

The Bronze Central side finished seventh of nine clubs after winning three of its eight matches, found the competition just a touch too hard.

The squads were ably managed by John Feddersen (Silver North), Eddie Dolan (Bronze North) and Richard Ellis (Bronze Central).

Overall, our three Taylor Challenge Series teams earned the club $1060.

Well done, Tranmere! Thanks must go to the regular supporters who went along to matches, in particular Ann and Lui Lippis for braving awful wintry conditions to support the Silver North side in the semi-final – gold star to them.
